Making a Raid Group in Classic or Retail
To create a raid group in Classic WoW or Retail WoW,
1. Create a regular group by inviting a friend, guildmate, or a character on one of your other accounts (if you have multiple).
2. Right-click your character portrait.
3. Click the “Convert to Raid” option under “Instance Options”.

Can I Convert My Raid Group Back to a Regular Group?
Yes. To convert your raid to a regular group, right-click your character portrait and click “Convert to Party”.
Can I Make a Raid Group By Myself?
You can only create a raid group by yourself if you have two or more WoW accounts.
What Should I Do If I Can’t Find a Person to Invite?
- Classic & Retail:
- Offer someone in General or Trade chat some gold to help you form a raid group
- Retail:
- Use the Premade Groups tool to create a Custom group that allows other players to change layers. As soon as someone joins your group, convert it to a raid.
Is There a Level Requirement to Create a Raid Group?
There is a level 10 requirement on Retail WoW, but no level requirement on Classic WoW.
What Happens If One Person Leaves a 2-Person Raid Group?
- Premade Groups: The remaining player will be the leader of a 1-person raid group.
- Non-Premade Groups: If one player leaves the group, the remaining player will be removed from the raid group.
Can I Complete Quests in a Raid Group?
While in a raid group, you can only earn progress toward quests of the “Raid” type.
However, you can still hand in non-Raid quests.
Do I Have to Be in a Raid Group to Enter a Raid?
- In Classic WoW, you must be in a raid group.
- In Retail WoW, you do not have to be in a raid group.
