How to Set the Main Tank in WoW

Jump to: Command | Clicking | Demoting

If you’ve just made a raid group, you should set the main tank to help your healers prioritize their heals.

Option 1: Type a Command

1. Type “/maintank [PlayerName]” or “/mt [PlayerName]“.

2. Replace [PlayerName] with the tank’s name.

3. Press the Enter key.

Option 2: Clicking

1. Open the Social window.

2. Click the “Raid” tab.

3. Right-click the player’s name and choose the “Promote to Main Tank” option.

The Main Tank will then be shown in the far left of the raid frames.

How to Demote a Main Tank

If a player should not be a Main Tank anymore, you can demote them by:

1. Re-opening the Raid window.

2. Right-clicking the player’s name and selecting the “Demote” option.
